Comprehensive amendment of the ElektroG is imminent

On 15.04.2021, the German Bundestag approved the draft of a first law to amend the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), so that the planned amendments can come into force on 01.01.2022, after the resolution in the German Bundesrat, which is expected on 07.05.2021.

EWKKennzV – Specifications for single-use plastic beverage containers and labeling requirements for certain single-use plastic products

Requirements for the import of conflict minerals entered into force

The relevant provisions of Regulation (EU) 2017/821 entered into force on 01.01.2021 and oblige Union importers of tin, tantalum, tungsten, their ores and gold to comply with certain due diligence requirements in the supply chain with regard to the origin of the aforementioned minerals and metals from conflict and high-risk areas.

Amendment of the German Packaging Act passed in the Bundestag

With its resolution of 26.11.2020, the German Bundestag passed the law on the First Amendment to the Packaging Act. With this, the long discussed ban of lightweight plastic carrier bags is introduced in a binding manner.

REACH: Implementing regulation for dossier updates published

On 12.10.2020, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1435 of October 9, 2020, on the duties placed on registrants to update their registrations under Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) was published in the Official Journal of the EU. The regulation already enters into force on 11.12.2020.

Prohibition of the placing on the market of certain single-use plastic products and products made of oxo-degradable plastics

On 17.09.2020, the German Bundestag passed the so-called Disposable Plastics Prohibition Ordinance (EWKVerbotsV), which prohibits the placing on the market of certain single-use plastic products and products made of oxo-degradable plastics in order to prevent environmental pollution, marine litter and to use resources more efficiently.
